Greenbrier County Man Tries To Strangle Father, Threatening To Kill His Mother

SMOOT, WV (WOAY) – One man is in jail after he tried strangling his father and threatening his mother.

On Monday, August 27, 2018, Greenbrier County Deputies were dispatched to a home where a mother stated that her 28-year-old son was on meth and threatening to kill her with a knife.

On Sunday, August 26, 2018, Theodore “Teddy” Franklin Shafran IV,  had dug his fingernails into the back of his father’s neck while pressing his thumbs into his throat.  On Monday, he began to attack his father by punching him in the head and body.  The father wanted to press charges because he was tired of his son abusing him and his wife.

The mother stated that her son was crazy on meth and wanted him to get help.  Shafran had been carrying a knife threatening to cut his own throat.

When police asked Shafran about it, he said he barely touched his father’s throat because he couldn’t get a good grip on his father, and he could have ducked out, if he wanted.

Shafran is charged with domestic battery and strangulation.  He is being held in the Southern Regional Jail.
