Get help signing up for health insurance Saturday in Beckley; Deadline Dec. 15

WV NaviCare Coming to Beckley-ARH to Help Consumers Enroll in Health Insurance Before December 15th Deadline Despite Uncertainty Around Affordable Care Act’s Future.

CHARLESTON, WV (NEWS RELEASE) – The Affordable Care Act is still in place and open enrollment is almost over for West Virginians who need to enroll, re-enroll or switch health insurance plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace. The major change that consumers need to know about is that the annual open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace has been reduced to six weeks. It will run from November 1, 2017 through December 15, 2017.

West Virginians who need help enrolling or have questions about health insurance can take advantage of the free help that WV NaviCare provides. They will have their representatives available for free, in-person help at an upcoming event that will take place on Saturday, December 9th at Beckley-ARH, 306 Stanaford Road, in Beckley. Any West Virginia resident will be able to come to the event to get free enrollment or re-enrollment help for Marketplace Health Insurance Plans. The event will be from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. and no appointment is necessary. Walk-ins will be taken all day.

WV NaviCare, a federally grant-funded project operated by First Choice Services, cautions people to pay close attention to the new deadline this year. The Health Insurance Marketplace offers monthly subsidies for most people to help pay for their insurance plans.  However, applicants must enroll through the Marketplace call center or online at Healthcare.gov to get those subsidies.

Jeremy Smith, program director for WV NaviCare, says that while they have been very busy helping people this year, he is concerned that many people may wait too long to enroll. “In past years, the open enrollment period was twice as long and people could sign up until the end of January.  We are trying our best to get the word out that if you want a 2018 health insurance plan through the Marketplace then you have to sign up by December 15, 2017.”

He urges anyone who needs assistance to reach out to his group for free help.  He added, “We don’t work on commission. Our job is to make sure you get the best insurance for you and your family and guide you through the whole enrollment process.”
