BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – One Raleigh County woman was honored during a special tree planting ceremony on May, 30th.
“She loved the garden club, she loved gardening and she was very instrumental through the years in helping beautify this area.”
That’s how Kristin O’Neal the President of Briercliff Garden Club describes her friend Brenda Caperton.
Brenda a member of the local gardening club for years maintained flower beds all throughout the community. Just before she passed away several years ago.
Each year the club assembles, to start their annual beautification project, which includes maintaining the yard of one home at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine.
This year the club set out to plant something special in honor of their late friend.
O’Neal adds, “The garden club wanted to honor her memory an knowing that she enjoyed cherry trees and gardening we chose to do this.”
Brenda is the late wife to WV DEP Cabinet Secretary Austin Caperton. Though time has passed the Cabinet Secretary is extremely appreciative that the club would remember to do this for his wife.
Austin said, “It’s just terrific shes well thought of and to have her club members honor her this way it’s quite overwhelming.”
For years to come Brenda’s legacy will continue to live on, thanks to that special Kwanzan Cherry tree from her gardening club.
