A couple of cold nights will initiate frost in many spots, but the weekend will feature a complete pattern reversal.
High pressure will foster clear skies each night through Friday. Friday between 4-7 a.m. will be the coldest morning with widespread 20s to low 30s. In many spots north of I-64, the growing season will come to an end as temperatures drop to 28 degrees or colder. Make sure to apply the hand lotion on Friday as the humidity drops to 15% and temperatures skyrocket to 70 degrees. This will rank as the third biggest temperature spike in October for the region!
A southwest wind ahead of another front will bring warm to even “hot” temperatures by Sunday afternoon. We are forecasting a high temperature of 78 degrees, which is 3 degrees shy of the record high for the day. Then, the coldest air of the season will descend on the region early next week, with a hard freeze expected to end the growing season south of I-64. By Thursday and Friday, a complete pattern change will drive in well-above average temperatures for the weekend that will linger into late October.
