Frost and Freeze Alerts End For Part of Region; Major Temp Roller Coaster Ride Ahead

A very warm weekend will give way to a big chill early next week while part of the region will no longer receive Frost and Freeze Alerts.

KEY TAKEAWAYS TO THE FORECAST: Very warm, possibly record heat this weekend. Windy on Sunday with evening gusty storms. Cold early next week with the first snow above 3,000 feet and then a rapid shift to warm weather once again.

This morning’s frosty temperatures ended the growing season for many spots. Nicholas, Fayette, Raleigh, Pocahontas and Greenbrier County will NO longer get Frost and Freeze alerts should temperatures drop near or below freezing since the weather service has deemed the growing season finished for these counties. Our southern coalfields will continue to see Frost Advisories and Freeze Warnings until the likely killing frost of the season occurs by midweek (Wed-Thu, 16-17).
