Friends of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve welcomes full time executive director

Glen Jean, WV (WOAY)- A significant milestone for friends of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve as President Deb Lamey announces the group’s first full-time executive director.

Roy Mark “Boog” Ferrell, Jr., is stepping into the role.

Ferrell brings a strong background in nonprofit leadership and fundraising.

Ferrell’s resume includes work with small businesses in Athens, Texas, and over a decade of involvement with 60 Feet, a nonprofit aiding children in Uganda.

Ferrell served in roles ranging from volunteer to executive director.

Lamey says Ferrell’s experience will help the Friends group grow and strengthen support for the park.

In a media release, Acting park superintendent Eric Laprice echoed that, calling the hire a “huge step forward” in the group’s development.

Ferrell, an avid ultrarunner and lover of the outdoors, says he’s honored to serve the mission of friends and the New River Gorge community.
