As the cold weather returned to Southern West Virginia, so did the annual Polar Plunge at Winterplace Resort. The event, who’s slogan is Freezin’ for a Reason, raises thousands of dollars for Special Olympics of Southern West Virginia.”
Dozens of people came together on Saturday morning to raise money and awareness for West Virginia’s Special Olympics, before jumping in the icy cold waters. The event is held all across the state to not only help fund the athletes and year-round activities, but to give them the means to train in their home state.
The CEO of West Virginia’s Special Olympics, John Corbett, told us, “Well to participate you have to pay $50. But many people go out and tell their friends and family about it and people donate for the great cause next thing you know we have a ton of people showing up and giving hundreds of dollars for this great cause.”
And the cause was so great, that Newswatch’s Rebecca Fernandez, decided to join in on the bone-chilling fun!
