MOUNT HOPE, WV (WOAY) – The Mountain of Hope Organization awarded 4 local students with scholarships over the Memorial Day weekend at its annual community picnic at Graney Park in Mount Hope. With this year’s awards, the Mountain of Hope Organization has presented nearly $40,000 in Scholarships since it started awarding scholarships 7 years ago.
The scholarship awards were presented by Pastor Jessie O. Parker of the First Assembly of God Church in Mount Hope. This year’s recipients were :
Jackson Lemon of Oak Hill High School. Jackson was a member of the OHHS Soccer Team, member of the National Honor Society, Member of the Aerospace Club and a board member of Mount Hope Soccer League. Jackson will attend West Virginia University majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
Ta’than Kidone Shore Gray of Oak Hill High School. Ta’thanwas a member of the OHHS football and wrestling teams, member of the National Honor Society and served as a referee for the youth soccer league. He will attend Marshall University majoring in Psychology.
Samantha Corley of Oak Hill High School. Samantha is employed by the Children’s Place. She will attend Glenville State majoring in Early Childhood Education.
Taylor Scott Pugh of Oak Hill High School. Taylor is a member of the OHHS Marching and Concert Band, member of the National Honor Society, and participated in numerous theatre productions. She will attend West Virginia Wesleyan College majoring in Musical Theatre/Pre Drama Therapy.
According to Mountain of Hope Organization President, Charles McKenney, the annual scholarships are funded by the Mountain of Hope Brick Fundraiser located in front of Mount Hope Municipal Stadium. According to McKenney, “the fundraiser is a great way to honor graduates, teachers, and faculty from Mount Hope & Dubois High Schools.
