Mercer County Health Board Member Speaks After Being Removed

MERCER COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – On July 8th, 2018 a Mercer County Board of Health member was forced to resign and now he’s speaking out.

Mercer County Commissioner Greg Puckett no longer serves on the board. Puckett said the reason behind his departure is due to the board feeling it’s a potential conflict of interest, because of his strong feelings towards revamping the counties clean air ordinance and public smoking-ban.

The ban would make it illegal to smoke at public places like bingo halls

“I think it’s really a loss for public health in Mercer County. Certainly it was a challenge to have fellow board members not elect to keep me on board, but I do believe I’m heavily qualified,” Puckett said.

Puckett says he plans to continue fighting for Mercer Counties public health.
