Former Lake Stephens Superintendent Arrested for Embezzlement

BECKLEY– The former Lake Stephens Superintendent, Rhonda Michelle Walker, was arrested on Friday morning for embezzlement.

Detective Robinson with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department tells WOAY Walker embezzled around $18,500 from the budget. He says she was arrested around 10 Friday morning and given a $25,000 bond.

The investigation began on May 7 when the Raleigh County Commission alerted the sheriff’s department that unauthorized checks were discovered during an audit. The checks were written by Walker to herself over several years.

Walker stepped down as superintendent earlier this week after the budget shortfall was found. The Raleigh County Commission is currently working to find her replacement.
