BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- While the City Manager, Michael Resare, was still in office — he conducted a preliminary review of the financials of the city of Beckley.
This was done to help enhance the city’s business more accountable, efficient, and transparently. In his report on January 28th, he evaluated the various departments on their budget and what the money was being used for.
In this report, he looked to tighten the budget in multiple departments, such as the IT department.
“Maybe you can make IT a little trimmer, but maybe there are people in our department doing jobs that fall under a different department in other towns and municipalities. So I think before you just rush in and say, ‘hey, listen, we can cut this budget.’ You need to really first spend time in those departments and look and see what their tasks are, what’s the responsibility like,” explained Ryan Neal, Beckley Mayor. “They may be overworked, they may be the 12th employee. You just don’t know until you get in there and look at it. So. So I just think it’s it’s good what he came out with and it’s things to build on and things to look at. And that’s what we’re here to do. That’s what we’re going to do.
