WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Fog is yet again developing across the region and will dissipate around 10 AM this morning. However, unlike yesterday, showers are already developing in and around the region. A heavier shower or two is possible this morning, but most of the heavy rain will occur this afternoon and evening. Flooding is the main concern for today’s showers and storms. Previously heavy rain and more downpours developing today will equate to more issues arising. Flash Flood Warnings were issued again last night, and I would not be surprised if the National Weather Service ends up hoisting them again this afternoon.
Along with the flooding threat, the northeastern corner of the region has been put in a “marginal” severe weather risk. This means the Storm Predication Center is expecting isolated severe activity. Available energy and wind shear will be slightly higher than yesterday, which could end up generating a gusty storm or two this evening. However, flooding is still the main concern in these storms due to persistent heavy rain. Stay weather aware and avoid flood waters if you encounter them. Rainy conditions will continue for the next few days as the next frontal system slowly passes through. The front begins its approach Friday morning, which will result in widespread storms by the afternoon. Again, heavy rain causing flooding is the main concern. There is plenty of moisture to work with as precipitable water is holding at around 1.75″, allowing more heavy rainfall. Storms should remain sub-severe due to consistent activity through the next couple of days.
Saturday’s forecast is much of the same. Widespread activity from morning until sunset, heavy rain causing flooding issues in trouble spots and previously impacted areas, and not much in the way of relief. Storm strength will likely remain limited across the region as the front passes through on Saturday, so flooding is the main concern for the third day in a row. After the front passes, rain will linger overnight and into most of Sunday. If you have plans this weekend, rain gear is definitely needed even if there are a few brief breaks in the action.
Moving into the new week, a few scattered showers will remain for Monday. Rainfall will not be nearly as widespread or heavy as this weekend, but an umbrella may be helpful on your travels through the day. The rain will finally dissipate on Tuesday of next week as higher pressure finally breaks through. Skies will be mostly sunny for both Tuesday and Wednesday and temperatures will break the 80-degree mark once again. The middle of the week will end up looking very typical for summer.
