Firefighters fight fire at Nitro tire business; Route 25 reopens

NITRO, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — UPDATE 8:43 a.m., Tuesday

Metro 911 reported about 4 a.m. that Route 25 at First Avenue South at Absolute Tire has reopened after a fire that engulfed the building.

UPDATE 10:20 p.m. , Monday

Metro 911 said Route 25 in Nitro at Absolute Tire will be closed for most of the night due to a structure fire. Avoid the area if possible.

Firefighters also are reporting there is some damage to roofs of nearby homes. No injuries have been reported.

Firefighters tell our crew at the scene that the fire is mostly out but at some point, a gas meter also caught fire and has continued flaring up.

9:30 p.m. —

Route 25 in both directions in Nitro at Absolute Tire will be closed for at least two hours as crews battle a fire at the tire shop. Metro 911 said the call came in about 9:15 p.m. Monday at Absolute Tire at 1101 First Ave. South.

The fire quickly engulfed the building, leaving fire officials rushing to keep it from spreading to nearby homes and businesses. Firefighters have been getting people out of their homes and away from the fire. No injuries have been reported so far.
