Academy of Careers & Tech decorate trees in a unique way

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The Academy of Careers and Technology held their 17th annual Festival of Trees on their campus in Beckley this evening.

Each department had to build a tree that reflects the skills and materials they use within their program.

The public was able to cast votes by signing in at the front door and receiving two tokens.

The green token was to cast a vote for your favorite traditional Christmas tree and the red token was to cast a vote for your favorite non-traditional Christmas tree.

The principal says this is about more than winning a trophy.

“Each year we have a different charity that we try to make as part of our program. So mostly it is to showcase our students and their program, but we also like to help the community. This year we are working with Toys for Tots collecting those toys,” said Principal Charles Pack.

If a guest brought an item to give Toys for Tots they were able to receive a blue token which allowed them to vote for any tree they liked.
