Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – The Food and Drug Administration warns consumers to avoid buying certain eye-drop products due to the possible risk of infection resulting in partial vision loss or blindness.
The FDA’s alert covers 26 over-the-counter eye drop products marketed under CVS Health, Leader, Rugby, Rite Aid, Target up-and-up, and Velocity Pharma.
The FDA says anyone who has already purchased the products should stop using them.
The agency recommended the manufacturer of the products recall all lots last week.
Investigators found unsanitary conditions in the manufacturing facility, where critical drug production areas tested positive for bacteria.
Several retailers have removed the products from store shelves.
The FDA hasn’t gotten any reports of eye infections associated with the eye drop products.
