Fayetteville Man Faces 22 Fraud-Related Charges

FAYETTEVILLE– A Fayetteville man is in jail after tonight on allegations of defrauding an elederly woman.


Matthew Edward Lies is facing 22 felony offenses including 10 counts of forgery, 10 counts of uttering, one count of computer fraud and one count of financial exploitation of an elder person or incapacitated adult. According to a criminal complaint, Lies was living with his mother. After the mother had been hospitalized, Lies allegedly forged and uttered checks from his mother. All the checks were made payable to cash and endorsed by Lies. He also allegedly set up for his court-ordered child support to be electronically taken out of his mother’s account each month. He has been arraigned and remanding to Southern Regional Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
