Fayette County Woman Found Passed Out Drunk With 18 Month Old Child In The Car

FAYETTE COUNTY (WOAY) – A Fayette County woman has been arrested this evening for DUI with her small child in the car.

At 11:20 pm Thursday night the Fayette County 911 Center dispatched Sheriff’s Deputies to the intersection of Cunard Road and Gatewood Road to a call of a woman slumped over the steering wheel of her vehicle. Upon their arrival they found a woman apparently under the influence of alcohol with her 18 month old child in the back seat. Deputies also noted multiple open beer containers in the car.

The child was transported to the hospital by ambulance for examination as a precautionary measure. Child Protective Services were contacted to determine if custody will be placed with a family member or otherwise.

The driver, Kelly Mae Ennis (27 of Meadow Bridge, currently living in Cunard), was arrested for the felony offense of Child Neglect Creating Risk of Injury. Ennis was also charged with Driving Under the Influence with a Unemancipated Minor in the Vehicle. She was placed at the Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment.

“These situations are always the saddest” says Sheriff Fridley. “We are thankful that nothing terrible happened to the child or anyone else due to this woman’s actions”.
