Fayette County Woman Dies After ATV Accident

WINONA, WV (WOAY) – A Fayette County woman died Tuesday afternoon following an ATV accident. Sheriff Mike Fridley released the following information regarding this incident.

At about 2:00 pm Tuesday afternoon, a couple were riding an ATV on Flanagan School Road in Winona while gathering mushrooms behind their home. The vehicle overturned, causing injuries to the riders. The male driver walked out to call for assistance. The female stayed behind due to being unable to walk out. When the driver returned, he found that the female had passed away.

Members of the Nuttall and Ansted Fire Departments responded along with EMS in an attempt to revive the victim, but the efforts were unsuccessful. The female, Rose Ella Chittum (63 of Winona) was officially pronounced dead by medical staff at Summerville Regional Medical Center.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends.” said Sheriff Fridley. “Now that spring is here and more people are out on the trails, we encourage everyone to ride safe”.
