Fayette County Woman Arrested After Locking Teen in Home

MOSSY— A Fayette County woman is in jail tonight on felony child abuse allegations. Sheriff Mike Fridley released the following information regarding this incident.

Fayette County deputies were dispatched to the Mossy/Pax area yesterday regarding a battery complaint. Deputies discovered that the victim is a 16 year old female, who was battered by a 51 year old woman who she had been living with for a few months.

The woman, Sherry Ann Armstrong of Mossy, was angry with the juvenile after she had visited with her mother. Armstrong attacked the juvenile, and then locked her in the home to prevent her from leaving. At one point Armstrong tried to shove the victim into a closet. The juvenile was able to escape the home and run for help.

Deputies checked the welfare of the juvenile and made the appropriate notifications to the Child Protective Services. The juvenile was ultimately placed into the custody of a family member.

Armstrong has been charged with the felony offense of Child Abuse Resulting in Injury, Unlawful Restraint and Domestic Battery. She has been placed in the Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment.
