Fayette County Town Sues Drug Distributor

SMITHERS– The town of Smithers has filed a lawsuit against one of the manufacturers and distributors of opioids.

The lawsuit seeks damages to remedy the impact of the opioid crisis on the Town of Smithers against Amerisourceberger Drug Corp. Lawyers say they are attempting to hold the company accountable for providing false and misleading information to doctors and patients about the safety and efficacy of prescription opioids over approximately the last 20 years and for ignoring federal rules requiring reporting of opioid distribution numbers.

According to a release, the police department routinely finds large amounts of pills and heroin and the town and has had to devote many resources to the police force to combat this influx of drug activity.
