Fayette County schools, teams begin Phase One

HICO, WV (WOAY) – Monday marked the first day high school teams could begin strength and conditioning drills ahead of the three-week summer practice period.

Per WVSSAC guidelines, Phase One of the restart for high school sports will focus on student-athletes taking part in small groups for two weeks, which would continue in Phase Two with fewer restrictions; Phase Three would coincide with the three-week practice period.

Most area counties are waiting until later this month to start Phase One, but more than 100 student-athletes at Midland Trail signed up to begin drills throughout the day. Head football coach Frank Isaacs says the drills will be designed keeping in mind that groups may be representing many different sports; he is grateful that these sessions are in-person.

WOAY Sports will be visiting multiple schools throughout the month of June as they begin drills ahead of the official practice periods as designated by the WVSSAC.
