Fayette County School Receives United States Flag

HILLTOP, WV (WOAY) – Have you ever held an American flag that was flown over the nation’s capital? Some students at one Fayette County school today were lucky enough to do just that.

The Mountain View Christian school held its annual “see you at pole” event this morning. The rain kept everyone inside but some students during prayer got to hold this flag. It was flown over Washington D.C. earlier this year.  The flag was sent to the school from Senator Joe Manchin back on September 7th, 2018.

“Not many schools get this opportunity, they chose us over hundreds of schools but the chose us to bring us this flag.” said, Senior Josie Thornton.

“When I think about the flag I really just think about the freedom it represents. I was actually at ROTC at my old school at it was just something that consumed everything” said, Senior Hannah Newsome.

And after the prayer service, students also practiced folding the flag and learning about what the colors and stripes represent.
