Fayette County man arrested on sex abuse charges from more than a decade ago

HILLTOP, WV (WOAY) – A Fayette County man has been arrested in a sexual abuse case that allegedly occurred over a decade ago.

David P. Humphrey, Sr., a 69-year-old man from Hilltop, was arrested on four counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, or person of trust and four counts of sexual abuse in the first degree.

It stems from an investigation that began in August 2022, when a student at Oak Hill High School told a school resource officer that they had been sexually abused.

The officer notified the sheriff’s department, and deputies began investigating. Through the investigation, the detectives were told by the student’s siblings that they, too, were allegedly abused by Humphrey.

Further, they told deputies that the incidents happened over a decade ago.

According to Sheriff Mike Fridley, the investigation shows why school resource officers are important.

“This is why it is important to have Prevention Resource Officers with the school system. Our officer had built a rapport with the students, which allowed them to trust him with this information.  I am glad the student will see that their complaint was taken seriously and action was taken against the individual,” Fridley said.
