Fayette County Man Arrested For Arson and Knife Attack

A Fayette County man has been arrested today for multiple felonies stemming from a family dispute.

At about 3:30 am this morning, deputies were dispatched to a home in Scarbro where a man was allegedly attempting to set fire to the residence. Upon arrival they discovered that David Wayne McCallister (42 of Fayetteville) attempted to set two fires in the home, which is occupied by his mother and her boyfriend. The fires were extinguished, at which point McCallister attacked his mother’s boyfriend, Edward W. Harper of Scarbro, with a knife. Harper suffered a laceration to his arm from the knife attack.

McCallister’s mother and Harper were able to take the knife from him, and waited for police and EMS arrival. McCallister was charged with felony counts of Malicious Wounding and 1st Degree Arson. Harper’s injuries were listed as non-life threatening.

McCallister’s bond was set at $10,000.00 by the Fayette County Magistrates Office. He was unable to post bond and was remanded to the Southern Regional Jail.
