Fayette County Deputy Sheriffs' Association donate to scholarship

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (NEWS RELEASE) – The members of the Fayette County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association are pleased to announce that a donation has been made to Midland Trail High School in support of the Melvin Propps’ Scholarship. This donation will permit the school to award a scholarship in the amount of $750.00 to a graduating senior from the Midland Trail class of 2017 who wishes to pursue a career as a teacher.
This scholarship fund was established in February of 2015 following the untimely death of Melvin Propps on January 30, 2015. Mr. Propps spent his entire teaching career in the Ansted schools and influenced and inspired countless students. The scholarship fund was established to honor Mr. Propps’ legacy by providing financial support to deserving students who wish to pursue careers as teachers.
This scholarship fund is supported entirely through donations from the community. Since so many members of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office are graduates of Midland Trail High School, our Association voted to help fund this scholarship through hosting a pistol match in conjunction with the Beckley Gun Club in April of 2017. The proceeds from this match were delivered to Midland Trail earlier this afternoon.
It is our ultimate goal that this scholarship fund will continue to grow each year until reaching the point that it becomes self-sustaining through interest income and/or investments. Anyone wishing to make a donation in support of this scholarship fund may mail or deliver the donations to Midland Trail High School. Please indicate on the memo line of your check that this donation is for the “Melvin Propps’ Scholarship Fund.”
