Smithers, WV (WOAY)- The Fayette County Commission Office of Litter Control invites the community to help clean up the neighborhood.
The office will host three community clean-up events this week, from Wednesday, October 23, through Friday, October 25.
The clean-up will be in Smithers at Longacre Bottom from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Last year, over 100 valley residents joined the cause, collecting more than 20,000 pounds of trash and over 250 tires.
The event is open to all Fayette County residents.
To participate, you must have ID, proof of residency, and a valid trash service or landfill receipt dated within the last 30 days.
Anyone disposing of waste in the dumpsters without approval could face legal fines or jail time.
Tires and appliances will be accepted during the clean-up.
The clean-up is not open to trash haulers or dump trucks, and no hazardous waste or liquids will be accepted.
Once dumpsters are full, no more contents will be accepted.
For more information, contact Dan Helton at the Fayette County Litter office at 304-992-9992.
Seniors and residents with disabilities are also encouraged to call the litter office, which is happy to assist them with disposing of any garbage.
