FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY)- A collection program to dispose all unwanted tires received more than three tractor trailer loads worth of tires Wednesday afternoon.
The tire collection was held by West Virginia Department of Environment Protection at the Walmart located in Fayetteville. The collection was a huge success as the company collected more than they expected to.
The abandoned tires can hold water and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes and rodents.
Tommy Harries, Litter Control Officer told WOAY that if you are caught dumping tires, you can face a fine, “If you are caught dumping old tires, WVDEP will write a notice citation then the person that dumped the tire will appear in front of Magistrate with in ten days and pay a fine.” said Harries.
If you missed Wednesday’s event but still want to help out in the community, no need to worry as other tire collections will be taking place throughout the month.
