Fayette Co. school employees meeting this afternoon to discuss work stoppage

FAYETTE CO., WV (WOAY) – Fayette County’s American Federation of Teachers Union is holding an “emergency meeting” this afternoon to discuss how they will vote on Thursday regarding a work stoppage.

The meeting will be at the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church at 5:00 p.m.

The group’s Facebook page says it will ask county school employees to decide Thursday on a vote of authority.

“If approved by a majority of teachers and service personnel, authority will be granted to AFT-WV and WVEA elected state leaders to act on our behalf in calling a statewide action should circumstances merit a work stoppage,” the post stated.

Organizers will discuss the process for voting, vote locations and times, as well as any other issues or concerns.

West Virginia schools employees are not happy with the governor’s proposal of a 5% pay increase over 5 years nor the new benefits package.
