Fayette Co. Man Arrested After Holding Wife Captive, Suffering Overdose

MONTGOMERY– A Fayette County man has been arrested after holding his wife captive for a number of hours.

Around 1pm Thursday there was a 911 call about a possible domestic incident in progress on WV Route 61 in the Deepwater area. The woman in this incident then went to the Montgomery Dairy Queen and asked an employee to call 911.

When officers arrived they found the man in this incident suffering from a possible overdose in a car in the parking lot with a .38 caliber handgun in the car. He was taken to Montgomery General Hospital for treatment.

The woman alleged that her husband had been holding her against her will since the early morning hours while he was under the influence of meth. She also said that he had been using meth for the past four days and had been beating her with a gun threatening to kill her with it.

Earnest David Chapman III, 40 of Kanawha Falls, is charged with the felony offenses of Kidnapping, Strangulation, Brandishing a Deadly Weapon, Prohibited Person In Possession of a Firearm, along with 2nd offense Domestic Battery. Chapman was unable to be arraigned due to his level of impairment and was remanded to the Southern Regional Jail.
