Families Offer Reward in Investigation of 2016 Murders

PRINCETON– Investigators are asking the public to come forward with any information they might have about the Sept. 9, 2016 murders of two people in the Kirby Addition area of Mercer County.

According to the Register Herald, David Hazelwood, 50, was shot and killed in his home at 111 Turnbull Street in Kirby Addition sometime between 4:15 and 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 9, 2016, Prosecuting Attorney George Sitler said at a Thursday morning press conference. A second person, Cathy Jo Vance, 60, was shot in the face. She died in October 2016.

Area law enforcement agencies are still pursuing leads regarding this double murder, Sitler said. The victims’ family is offering a cash reward for information leading to the apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrator. Sitler declined to name the reward’s dollar amount, but said it was “substantial.”

Detective Jeff Ellison of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department is in charge of the investigation. He can be contacted at 304-487-8480
