FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY)- Fayette County Schools hosted the Empowerment Collaborative this week to prepare for this school year.
The Empowerment Collaborative is a program to help change the way we teach middle schoolers. This program is real-world focused with a career mindset.
Although this program isn’t just for the teachers, students are given the opportunity to have a voice in their education. This past week, students and teachers worked together to build projects.
The curriculum specialist at Fayette County Schools explains more bout the work they did this week.
“So the students look at problems within their community or within their school to solve that way, that they are working towards a goal. And so some of the ideas are for Valley, for example, healthy foods. And so they’re taking on a healthy hounds approach towards doing a trunk or treat that’s going to be focused on giving out healthy things instead of candy,” explained Kennedy Moore, a curriculum specialist at Fayette County Schools. “And so that’s just one example of some of the work that’s come out of students’ ideas, as well as the planning process.”
