RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Eight people have been issued warrants after trying to break out of Southern Regional Jail.

According to court documents, on November 28, 2018, at approximately 4 pm State Police were notified of an attempted escape at Southern Regional Jail in Beaver.   On November 30, 2018, evidence was provided in the form of photos, interviews, and footage during which eight people attempted the escape.

Jonathan Felts, Marcus Hannah, Charles Stanley, Danny Malone, Harry Culotta, Thomas Dunbar, Derek Walls, Jason Roberts are all facing charges.

A witness told authorities he was asked by Dunbar to assist Felts to make a hole in B pod Section 7, cell #8 wall and make their way under the floor in a pipe chase.  The witness stated that the plan was to escape during the Thanksgiving week because upper administrators would not be a the jail.   Felt told the witness that he had guns and a murder weapon that needed to leave the state and wanted the witness to assist him.

Felt and Hannah made the initial hole in the wall by loosening the toilet paper holder and unloosen bolts inside the wall. They removed a bracket and began to make the hole bigger.   Felt and Hannah ended up going into the wall to make it bigger during daylight hours because it was loud.  Felt planned to melt down spoons form the kitchen and make a skeleton key for the steel doors to get to the outside.

The witness went on to say that he was speaking with Dunbar in the yard and he began speaking of the girl’s he killed in Greenbrier County and that’s when the witness changed his mind about helping them.

The total estimated loss to the property that was damaged is expected to be under 2500.00 dollars.
