HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — Huntington police arrested eight people following a drug bust Wednesday afternoon.
A SWAT team made entrance to an apartment in the 900 block of Washington Avenue. Capt. Rocky Johnson said doors in the apartment were fortified and barricaded with 12-inch bolts, steel rods and 4 by 4 posts.
Johnson said the apartment also had an intricate surveillance system. Johnson said in his 27 years of police work he has never seen a house barricaded and fortified like this one and that he has “never seen a surveillance system like that.” Johnson said the people inside the apartment could watch the entire block with their surveillance system.
Inside the first-floor apartment, police found drug paraphernalia and firearms. A release from the Huntington Police Department said detectives found evidence that a propane heater was used to destroy money and drug evidence as the SWAT team attempted to get into the apartment. There were also animals inside the building, Johson said.
Johnson said the landlord did not do a good enough job monitoring the property.
Johnson said police have been watching this apartment for several weeks and on New Year’s Eve, he said he saw 30 people stop by in 30 minutes.
