RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY)- With Christmas only three days away, tragedy struck very early in the morning when a shooting occurred in Raleigh County.
“There was a disturbance and a female was shot,” said Lieutenant Benny Halstead, Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department.
The shooting occurred at 3:30 a.m. Friday morning when a man shot a woman with a single gunshot. Dispatchers say the couple got into an argument and alcohol and drugs likely were involved.
“We are going through collecting evidence and documenting the scene to make sure we have the most accurate view of the incident that we can,” said Halstead.
The shooter is in custody and charges have not yet been filed. “He was here on the scene when we arrived, came up to us with no problem,” said Halstead.
WOAY reached out to neighbors who were not willing to comment due to the shock. Two dogs remain at the house.
“The public and the community around does not need to worry. It’s not going to be a spread thing. It’s isolated to the residents, so everything should be fine after that,” said Halstead
Deputies shared that this is still an ongoing investigation. One person was injured and sent to Charleston Hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.
