SOPHIA, WV (WOAY) – A dozen people injured after a car crashes into a building in Sophia.

At around 9:30 pm Thursday, May 10, a women driving a bluish Subaru crashed into the Sophia Bingo Hall building injuring at least a dozen people.

WOAY was first on the scene and witnesses tell us that it was a normal night playing bingo when a woman received a phone call that her mother was possibly dying. They said the woman left but then somehow ended up crashing into the building. Witnesses tell WOAY that it sounded like a “bomb” went off and people went flying.

One person was pinned between the car and the wall, people on the scene tried to get the car off of her.

Sophia City Assistant Fire Chief Scott Thomas says that the conditions ranged from minor to critical.

We do not know what caused the woman to crash into the building at this time.
