DHHR accepting school clothing allowance applications until July 31

Charleston, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) Bureau for Family Assistance has begun accepting applications for the School Clothing Allowance Program.

Each eligible child will receive a $200 benefit for purchasing appropriate school clothing or piece goods for sewing.

Families with school-age children receiving WV Works cash assistance, foster parents and guardians, children ages 4-18 who receive SNAP benefits, or students whose household income is under 130% of the federal poverty level meet the qualification to earn the clothing allowance.

Other families may qualify for the program. However, a family of four’s monthly income may not exceed $3,250.

Families must submit verification of income for July 2024 along with their applications.

2023 allowance recipients with Medicaid coverage will be mailed a program application.

Recipients will receive an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card that works like a debit card and is accepted at retailers that accept EBT transactions.

Foster parents and guardians will receive benefits in the form of a check.

Applications are due by July 31.
