Deputy U.S. Marshal passes away off duty in Fayetteville, WV

CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY) – Deputy U.S. Marshal James JimmyHabib, 45, died off duty due to natural causes at his residence in Fayetteville, West Virginia, on May 21, 2020.

Habib was a 17-year veteran of the U.S. Marshals Service with assignments to Superior Court in Washington D.C. and the WesternDistrict of Kentucky, prior to his assignment to the Southern District of West Virginia.  He was the Deputy in Charge of court operations for the Beckley Office and served as the Tactical Training Officer for the Southern District of West Virginia.

Habib served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He worked as a law enforcement officer in Jefferson County, New York, prior to entering the Marshals Service in September 2003.

Deputy United States Marshal Jimmy Habib was an outstanding law enforcement officer and a loving father to his two children.  His outgoing personality and his passion for sharing hisknowledge of operational tactics with fellow law enforcement officers will be greatly missed.  With his passing, West Virginia has lost a native son who exemplified the United States Marshals Service’s motto of ‘Justice, Integrity, and Service.
