Crews prepare park for softball tournament

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Raleigh Couny officials are preparing Fitzpatrick Park for an upcoming softball tournament.n

The Raleigh Round-Up softball tournament is still on.

Fitzpatrick Park has had a drainage issue for a while that caused problems with fields and the walking path flooding. Some utility poles were rotting away, so crews are hard at work to fix the issues.

“We’ve been borrowing some guys from the county as well as our Parks and Rec crews to work on this project,” said executive director of Parks and Rec Molly Williams. “We’ve had to bring people in to help with the poles and whatnot, but we’re moving along. Progress is being made and that’s what’s most important.”

The problems are expected to be fixed before the fast-pitch tournament next month.
