Congresswoman Miller announces $2.3 million to New River Transit Authority

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) announced that the New River Transit Authority in Beckley, West Virginia will receive a grant of $2,314,933.

This funding is a direct result of the $55.6 million in funding granted to the State of West Virginia from the Department of Transportation for COVID-19 response.

“Keeping our transit services up and running through this public health emergency is crucial,” said Congresswoman Miller. “Without the New River Transit Authority, our essential workers could not effectively and efficiently work to combat this virus and keep the Beckley community healthy.”

The funding will be used to aid in COVID-19 response expenses including salaries, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), professional cleaning, sanitation barriers for staff, fuel, and administrative leave for operations employees.

This grant is a direct result of the CARES Act and given to the Department of Transportation for allocation to each state. West Virginia is working to ensure its portion of the funding is disbursed to those who successfully apply. Further details about the original $55.6 million grant can be found in Miller’s press release announced on April 3, 2020.
