Concord football’s season opener moved to Sept. 10

WOAY – Concord University Athletics announced Monday that the football team’s season opener with Glenville State has been moved to Thursday, September 10. It was previously scheduled for Saturday, September 12.

This will mark the first game for new head coach Dave Walker, who was hired in December after several decades coaching high school football in West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle. Walker, a Pineville native, was a four-year football letterman at Glenville State, and was inducted into the Pioneers’ Hall of Fame in 2016.

Concord football last opened a season on a Thursday in 2017; they have a second home weeknight game scheduled for Thursday, October 15 against Charleston.

Kickoff between the Mountain Lions and Pioneers is scheduled for 7:00 PM on September 10 at Callaghan Stadium in Athens.
