Community invited to join in Creek Quest stream ecology workshop scheduled for September 6

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) -Discover the hidden world beneath the surface during Creek Quest this weekend

The community is invited to join a hands-on stream ecology adventure on Saturday, September 6, at 10:00 a.m. in the heart of the New River watershed at Dunloup Creek.

The National Park Service (NPS), West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WV DEP), and Plateau Action Network (PAN) are partnering to host the workshop.

Participants will meet at the Southside Junction Parking Area, just across the river from Thurmond.

Expect to explore aquatic life with Park Rangers as they catch and study macroinvertebrates, which are tiny creek critters that reveal big secrets about water quality.

You’ll have a chance to dive deeper with DEP and PAN specialists as they guide you through a real stream assessment and share how you can protect our precious waterways.

All ages are welcome, and the event is perfect for kids, nature lovers, and budding scientists.

Be sure to wear shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting wet.

Life jackets will be provided, but don’t forget your sense of adventure.
