College golfers share thoughts on future plans

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WOAY) – For the second straight year, a college student-athlete won the West Virginia Amateur, following Friday’s victory for Ravenswood native Alex Easthom.

Easthom is about to begin his junior year at West Liberty, and parred the 72nd hole to win by one stroke over defending champion Mason Williams and former WVU golfer Chris Williams; Mason plays at Georgia Southern, where he is teammates with former Westside standout Colin Bowles.

The top area golfer at this year’s championship is also a college student-athlete; Jackson Hill of Daniels will be a sophomore at Wofford this school year. Hill says he hopes to be able to play a fall season, though the status of the season is currently uncertain with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting all collegiate fall sports.

Easthom says he might play in a tournament later this summer, but is also planning to reflect on the accomplishment of this week’s win. He is the newest member of the club of players to have won both the Junior Amateur and Amateur titles.
