BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The City of Beckley holds a diversity hiring event for first responders.
The Beckley Human Rights Commission partnered with the fire and police departments to hold hiring events throughout the city. The goal is to encourage minorities to apply for one of the city’s open positions for first responders.
The chair of the Beckley Human Rights Commission Danielle Stewart says diversity is crucial to have for the city’s first responders.
“People don’t always realize that Beckley is one of the most diverse cities in West Virginia. And in order for our community to feel inclusive, needs to be included. Right now there’s an under-representation of minorities in our emergency services, and it’s something that the city is wanting to address,” Stewart said.
The Beckley Police Department is currently taking applications for 12 positions.
