City of Beckley back to enforcing parking downtown

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – During the pandemic, the City of Beckley relaxed their downtown parking meter monitoring.

However, as the courthouse and other businesses have started opening back up, they are starting to ticket again if you stay past the allotted time you pay or if you do not pay at all.

“In a perfect world, we wouldn’t charge,” Beckley Mayor Rob Rappold said. “We wouldn’t have parking meters. We wouldn’t charge for on-street parking. The fact is, certain people, human nature being what it is, will take advantage of it. Again, I say it is a jigsaw puzzle. It’s something we discuss monthly.”

The parking commission meets monthly to discuss issues and best ways to enforce parking.
