Chilly night ahead before some Sunday rain and a great Memorial Day

Howdy, folks! We’re in for a pleasant evening across southern West Virginia, though things will turn quite chilly overnight—especially for those in higher elevations. A Frost Advisory is in effect for areas above 3,000 feet in Pocahontas County due to temperatures expected to dip into the frosty 30-degree range. In addition, many of us will also be waking up to areas of dense fog Sunday morning.

After the cold start, Sunday will turn into a mild day for most. However, rain chances return by the evening hours and will increase overnight. While showers are likely for many, Sunday won’t be the wettest day in the upcoming forecast.

Memorial Day itself is shaping up nicely! Any early morning showers should clear quickly, leaving behind beautiful, dry conditions for your day off—perfect for outdoor plans or remembrance ceremonies.

However, enjoy the break while it lasts. Rain returns Tuesday and is expected to linger through the rest of the workweek, with Tuesday shaping up to be particularly soggy. Temperatures all week will remain below average, with most days running about 5 degrees cooler than normal—and some days dipping as much as 10 degrees below the seasonal norm of 73°F.

Enjoy the holiday, and stay weather-aware as the pattern turns rainy once again!
