Chief Meteorologist Provides Primer For Fire Management Team on Weather Pattern Recognition For West Virginia Wildfires

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Chief Meteorologist Chad Merrill provided insight to the fire management team at the New River Gorge National Park into the factors that lead to spring and fall brush fires.

Allegheny Fire Zone Fire Lead for Fuels Michelle Faherty invited Merrill to present his research into the weather patterns that lead to brush fires in southern West Virginia. Merrill did a reconstruction of the weather pattern leading to the Steep Valley Fire in November and a general overview of the best indices to review on a weekly basis to stay ahead of the brush fire potential.
