Cheers of Beckley to re-open Thursday with modifications

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Thursday night, Cheers of Beckley will open its doors for the first time in months.
“[I’m looking forward to] just getting back into the swing, getting to see all of our regulars,” said bartender Hannah Ketterling. “They are all excited to come out. We have some really good drink specials going on tomorrow night to start us back since we haven’t been here for a few months.”
Before the pandemic, Cheers was one of Beckley’s go-to spots for weekend nightlife.
“It’s a really good atmosphere. Everyone is friends when you come in here. If you’re not friends, you are by the end of the night.”
Returning customers will have a different experience than usual. They need to enter through the upstairs front door and leave through the back. Cheers will only allow people to enter at half capacity, meaning only 60 people will be allowed inside.
“We’re going to have hand sanitizer throughout the whole entire building. Our employees will have to have their temperature taken before they come in every shift. We’ll be washing our hands a whole lot more than we normally do, and we’ll be making sure that everything is sanitized.”
Since the bar is known for its dancing and playing billiards, social distancing can be tricky. While the bar still plans to play music, they discourage customers from dancing in groups and ask that you give each other space around the pool tables.
“We’re going to clean [the pool tables] after each person gets done playing pool, that way you can still play. You just put your money up and wait your turn; that way, you’re not standing up near others shooting pool.”
Cheers of Beckley opens at 5 p.m. Thursday night.
