Charleston Police Shot At CAMC General Hospital

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS BY: JARROD CLAY) — A Charleston police officer was shot after an inmate escaped custody while at CAMC General Saturday afternoon.

Police said the patient, who was being guarded by a Montgomery police officer, was able to get free at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday and got into a struggle with the officer, which spilled into the alleyway behind the hospital. Charleston police responded to help and a Charleston officer was shot by the suspect, who was able to get the Montgomery officer’s gun.

That officer’s name has not been released at this time, but Charleston Police Chief Steve Cooper said he is OK.

The suspect was taken into custody by the officer who was shot and other Charleston police officers.

This is the second Charleston police officer who has been shot in the last three and a half months.

The suspect, Brian Ogle, was wanted in Tennessee and was arrested by Montgomery police about four days ago following a pursuit. He was being guarded at the hospital by Montgomery police.

The lockdown was lifted just before 4:30 p.m.  At this time, no other details have been released.
