Capito DIscuses Miner’s Protection Act With UMWA

WASHINGTON D.C.– Senator Shelley Moore Capito met with West Virginia United Mine Worker Retirees to discuss the Miners Protection Act.

Capito said, “It was great to see my friends from West Virginia and have a productive discussion about protecting the healthcare benefits of retired coal miners. This issue is so important to coal mining families in West Virginia and across America. I was glad to receive assurance from the president that he is supportive of the miners, and I will continue fighting to protect these important benefits.”

A bipartisan group of senators, including Senators Capito and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) reintroduced the Miners Protection Act last month. In December 2016, Senator Capito wrote a letter to President-elect Donald Trump urging him to address the Miners Protection Act early in his administration.
