Bright Moon Alert, Then Occasional Winter Weather and Bitter Cold

Following a cold night, snow will greet the region Thursday and again this weekend before the coldest weather of the winter settles in.

TONIGHT: The 95.9% full Wolf Moon will rise at 7:25 p.m. and be bright in the night sky before setting at 9:25 a.m. Thursday.

THURSDAY: Low impact snow event with about 0.75″, most accumulating on the grass, except for eastern Nicholas and western Pocahontas and Greenbrier County.

LOOKING AHEAD: Snow will change to freezing rain Saturday morning, then light rain before ending. More snow will move into the region Sunday afternoon and end early Monday before the coldest weather of the season blasts into our region. None of these storms will produce more than 6″.

COUPLE OF REMINDERS FOR NEXT WEEK’S COLD BLAST: The last time we had the magnitude cold weather we are expecting, Marshall University suffered water leaks, a water line broke and flooded the Boone County Courthouse and storage tanks for a utility company drained due to broken pipes. Watch out for water main breaks and if they occur, water will turn to a sheet of ice where the break occurs.
